Elisabeth Murdoch College

Senior School (Years 10 - 12)

Welcome to Senior School,

Students in Years 10, 11 and 12, their dedicated teachers, Student Achievement Leaders, and Team Leaders make up Senior School. As a College, we have high expectations of every student and set goals together to ensure the best possible Pathway to Success.

Students remain in the same Sub School through Middle to Senior School. They continue to be supported by their Home Group Teacher, however they are not necessarily with their Home Group peers in subjects. In Senior School classes are a mixture of students from all Sub Schools depending on the personalised course selected by each student. Our Transition Program into Year 10 begins for Year 9 students in April where students explore subjects and courses with the help of Home Group Teachers and careers advisors to best prepare for the decisions and situations they will encounter as they move into Senior School. Student wellbeing remains of primary importance and we have put support structures in place to monitor student wellbeing, punctuality, academic progress, and attendance.

The College offers a broad based curriculum that caters for a range of skills and interests and prepares students for their transition into further study and work. Approximately 70% of our Year 11 and 12 students select a full VCE program, some with a VET program and around 30% of students choose a VCAL pathway with a VET program. In addition, students are encouraged to immerse themselves into the opportunities offered by the College through the Camps and Excursions Program, Careers Expos, University visits, College Productions, Music, Sport and community volunteering to name a few.

The subject teachers, Team Leaders, Pathways Leaders, Careers Team and support staff put each students' needs and aspirations as our priority. We aim to nurture passion, talents and expertise so every student experiences success. We know our students as people first and students second. This creates a positive culture based on respectful relationships and culminates in a mentoring program for all Year 12 students. Most Senior School classes are held in the new Senior Centre which includes a study area for Year 12 students and supervised Study Hall for those students in Years 10 and 11 who may have Study Hall in their timetable because they have chosen a VET program which is run outside normal school hours. Specialist classes are held in specialist areas such as the Science Wing, Film Studio, Farm, Gym, Technology Wing, Performing Arts Area to name a few.

We aim to provide each individual student with their Pathway to Success. Please contact your child’s Pathways Leader or Home Group Teacher if you have any concerns, questions, feedback or ideas for improvement.
